Authorities ID man found dead in burning pickup truck in Canal Winchester

CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio -- Authorities have identified a man found dead in a burning vehicle in Canal Winchester Wednesday night.

The Madison Township Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire in the field behind the Home Depot on Gender Road just after 11 p.m.

After the flames were extinguished, responders discovered a badly burned body in the driver's seat of the 1996 Chevrolet truck. Authorities say the truck appeared to be stuck in the water and mud off the roadway behind the Home Depot.

The Fairfield County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as 76-year-old Thomas W. Kelley of Canal Winchester.

The state fire marshal's office is assisting in the investigation to help determine the cause of the fire. The sheriff's office says investigators do not believe foul play was involved.
