COLUMBUS -- Churches all over Columbus offer a speedy start to the holy season of Lent.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Easter celebration. For centuries, Christians have received a cross of ashes on their forehead to remind them of mortal failings and to receive God's forgiveness.

Local churches are partnering up and providing an opportunity to participate in the tradition without missing work with Ashes to Go. Participants are invited to walk or drive up and receive the ashes any time across the lunch hours.

"One of our values is to 'get outside of ourselves' as a church, and Ashes to Go is a way that we can bring our faith tradition to meet people where they are during the workday," Upper Arlington Lutheran Church Pastor Jeff Morlock said in a press release. He will be officiating on Wednesday. "We will also be offering prayer for the needs of those who participate."
