Alleged Burglar Shot By Resident During Break-In, Attack With Hammer


A 31-year-old man faces a number of charges after an alleged break-in at a Knox County home.

Paul B. Swetnam III is charged with burglary, felonious assault and aggravated possession of drugs after allegedly breaking into a home on Dec. 22, 2012.

The indictment was announced Monday.

Swetnam is accused of trying to harm the 56-year-old resident, who then shot Swetnam in the abdomen with a .45 caliber handgun, according to the Knox County Prosecutor's Office.

After being transported to a hospital, authorities found methamphetamine in his pants pocket.
