Mackenzie Bart has several experiences in her life that drove her passion for the weather. To start, she grew up just down the road from the famous Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil, her favorite famous forecaster.
After graduating from high school, she witnessed the destruction from the EF5 tornado in Joplin, Missouri, while traveling the country for an instructional summer camp job. At that moment, she knew that she was guided to be the voice of safety for others. This fueled her interest and career path in the field of weather.
Mackenzie went on to study Atmospheric Sciences at The Ohio State University where she was involved in the Meteorology Club, Central Ohio NWA and volunteered to rebuild homes after the Moore, OK tornado outbreak.
While in Ohio, Mackenzie served as Miss Ohio 2014 and had the opportunity to compete in the prestigious Miss America Scholarship Competition. She won the Preliminary Talent Award with her ventriloquist puppet, Roxy, by her side, and was in the final top 10 at Miss America. Mackenzie made appearances on The Today Show and Good Morning America the next day.
Her TV appearances didn’t stop there; Mackenzie went on to compete in TBS’ American’s Next Top Weatherman where she walked away winning the weather-based competition.
Along with interning at WBNS during her college career, she was able to work alongside some of her role models like Jim Cantore and Jen Carfagno at The Weather Channel.
In 2017, she traded in her snow boots for flip flops to work at ABC7 in SWFL where she reported and forecasted for Hurricane Irma and Dorian, just to name a few.
Mackenzie was very excited to return to the Buckeye State and join the 10TV team. While being back in Ohio, Mackenzie has trained to be an official Skywarn Weather Spotter.
