88-year-old woman killed in Richland County crash

RICHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — An 88-year-old woman has died after a crash that happened Tuesday morning near Mansfield.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 9:20 a.m. in the area of U.S. 30 and Lexington Springmill Road.

Authorities say a Chevrolet Impala was entering U.S. 30 westbound from Lexington Springmill Road and turned in front of a Volvo semi commercial truck that was also traveling west on U.S. 30.

The Impala was trying to trying to turn left into the median crossover when the crash occurred. The vehicle came to a final rest in the median and the commercial truck came to a stop along the road.

OSHP says the driver of the Impala, identified as 88-year-old Frances Stamper of Mansfield, Ohio, was taken to OhioHealth Mansfield, where she died from her injuries. Police say she was not wearing a safety belt.

The driver of the commercial truck was not hurt in the crash.

Officials do not suspect alcohol or drugs as factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
