Police: Infant Suffered Multiple Fractures, Burns

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A judge ordered a mother be held on $250,000 bond on Thursday after she was arrested for allegedly abusing her 5-month-old son.

Asia Blakey, 19, was charged with permitting child abuse and the infant's father, Jasper Wall III, was arrested and charged with endangering children with a torture or cruelty abuse specification.

Wall, 16, waived his appearance in court on Thursday.

"The father has stated that he does get upset with the child, particularly when the child wakes up in the middle of the night and he becomes angry and he has had some anger issues," said Columbus police Sgt. John Hurst.

Police said the boy had 27 fractures on his body, all in different stages of healing. He also had bleeding to his brain, 10TV News reported.

Detectives learned of the abuse after being called to the hospital because the infant had second degree burns to his right hand, 10TV News reported.

"They had no excuse or reason as to how the burn occurred so they said they woke up the next morning and the child had a burn on the hand," Hurst said.

The abuse occurred at the couple's home on Livingston Avenue over a six-week period, police said.

"If the child had not somehow burned his hand and not been taken to the hospital, there is no doubt in my mind that this child probably would have been found deceased at some point in the near future," Hurst said.

Franklin County Children Services said the infant has been in a foster home for the last five days. It was too early to determine whether the injuries could cause permanent damage to the child, 10TV News reported.
