Election Day Calls Crash Franklin County Phone SystemNov 07 2006 12:32PM
Reported by Eric James The Board of Elections office was filled with a lot of activity Tuesday afternoon. One worker compared it to shopping at Wal-Mart on Christmas Eve. There was a lot of controlled chaos and lots of running around as workers dealt with a number of issues that typically plague the board of elections office on Election Day. One of the biggest problems was the phone system, which became overloaded early Tuesday morning. "Obviously we've had some issues with our phones, every year we try to address those issues, if people are having problems we want to know about them so we can get them resolved," said Denny White from the Board of Elections Besides resolving the phone issues, workers were dealing with problems involving voting machines. At a precinct on Frebis Avenue, nine of the machines didn't work Tuesday morning. 10TV also heard of problems from several other precincts. Most of the problems were caused by human error in the setup process, and the machines themselves are fine. One machine did have to be replaced, after a screen broke when it was dropped. The Board of Elections office is still fielding calls. If you have questions, the number to call is 462-3100. |
