Younger-Looking Eyes Without Surgery

Reported by Andrea Cambern

Would you like to look five to seven years younger without surgery? It's possible, if you get rid of the crows-feet and hooding around your eyes.

Eyes by Thermage has come to Columbus.

Jenny Mayne wants to look fresher.

"I've noticed that as I've gotten older I look tired all the time. And I've had friends and people say, 'oh, you look tired today.' So for me, I just want to look more rested," Maybe said,

So she's come to Dr. Debbie Cole-Sedivy for a thermage treatment her eyes.

Jenny gets what looks like a Halloween mask, a washable grid to guide the doctor's wand. Thermage is a radio-frequency therapy that promotes the growth of collagen and reduces facial wrinkles. In April the FDA approved a new, smaller tip for the wand, and its use around the eyes.

"This procedure allows us for the first time non-invasively to go inside the orbit and do something about the eyelid, the skin above the eye, and below the eye," Dr. Debbie Cole-Sedivy said.

During treatment, Jenny's eyes are protected by a special cover. As the doctor touches each spot on her face, Jenny feels a brief wash of heat, but says it doesn't hurt.

"It's subtle. Your eyes aren't suddenly pulled back and opened up like you had surgery. It's very natural looking," Dr. Cole-Sedivy said.

Dr. Cole-Sedivy says the initial redness fades in a few hours. Though the full effect won't show up for six months, it should last more than two years.

When one eye was done, Jenny took a look and liked what she saw.

"Up until now there really hasn't been a good procedure for sagging eyes that didn't require a lot of down time, and that was reasonably priced. So I was really excited to hear about the new procedure," Mayne said.

Dr. Cole-Sedivy says it costs twelve hundred dollars to have your eyes done by thermage, which is about half the cost of cosmetic surgery. Unlike surgery, however, this isn't permanent.
