What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary) is a process by which content from multiple Web sites can be automatically compiled on your computer and updated several times an hour. This eliminates the need to browse those Web sites looking for new content.

Programs to display RSS feeds – called aggregators or feed readers – retrieve the latest content from Web sites and display it on a user’s desktop or within a Web browser.

RSS aggregators are also built in to browsers such as Safari, Firefox and Mozilla, but current versions of the Internet Explorer and Netscape browsers do not yet have this capability.

Internet Explorer users must download an RSS aggregator or use a Web site (such as MyYahoo!) that will display RSS feeds.
