COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State will head to Penn State this week without kicker Aaron Pettrey, who tore a ligament in his right knee.

Pettrey, the team's leading scorer, was scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday, 10TV's Dom Tiberi reported.

The injury occurred in the second quarter of Ohio State's 45-0 win over New Mexico State.

Pettrey's father, Steve, said that he is hopeful that his son will be back in time for the team's bowl game.

"(Aaron) was really disappointed when he called me Saturday after it happened," Steve Pettrey said.  "He knew it was something pretty bad.  He's coming around though.  He wants to get it over with, start the rehab and hopefully be back by the bowl game."

The kicking duties will either fall on Ben Buchanan or Devin Barclay, although it looks like field goals and extra points will be handled by Barclay, Tiberi reported.

Barclay, who played for the Columbus Crew in 2004-05, successfully kicked one of three field goal attempts on Saturday.  He made all three of his of his extra point attempts.

Buchanan has not attempted a kick this season.
