Now Dan is extremely sick, after cleaning algae off his pet, ONN's Stephanie Mennecke reported Friday.
"I love him so much and I hate seeing him go through this," said Laura "He has memory loss, loss of feeling in his left arm and thigh and he's exhausted. This is not my husband."
The couple believe there's a link to the lake.
They were one of several people who came out to hear the state's plan of action.
The plan will begin with some in-lake treatments. They'll test alum treatments beginning in September and if that is effective they'll treat the entire lake.
They also plan to review a smaller algae-flipping project.
Out of the water, local leaders want local farmers to improve their manure hauling practices to keep away the runoff.
"There is no silver bullet, no magic wand, there is nothing that we can do that we are aware of to turn this situation around quickly," said Chris Korleski, the Ohio EPA Director.

That is news that doesn't sit well with anyone who lives there.
Ted Goodwin with Kozy Kampground and Marina, said his business has been all but wiped out.
"Last year we lost $100,000 in business and we are on the same path this year," said Goodwin. "We need action now, this community is dying."
A dying community, which now literally fears death.
"We've been married almost 20 years and I don't want to lose my best friend," Jenkins said.
The two in-lake projects will be paid for by the state.
Officials said they plan on returning to Celina soon, and will hold another meeting with the public
