WILLOUGHBY, Ohio — A northeast Ohio family hopes money is what gets someone to talk about what happened to their loved one.

Eddie Vanatter went missing from Eastlake in 2003, ONN's Cristin Severance reported.

"I believe something terrible happened to him," said Vanatter's mother Denise Shimrock.

"You put it in God's hands," said Vanatter's sister Michelle Thomas. "However, it's still with you every day."

For the last seven years, Shimrock and Thomas have wondered what happened to Vanatter.

"He didn't just disappear. Someone did something to him," said Shimrock.

The last time Vanatter was seen was at a home on East 345th Street in East Lake, Severance reported.

Police believe there was some sort of altercation and he was never heard from again

"He was living with a man named John Caputo," said Lt. Ron Walters. "He said he asked Eddie to leave the residence and there was an altercation between Eddie and another person at the residence."

"John Caputo said that Eddie left with another person, but no one knows this other person," said Shimrock. "There is no way to verify this other person."

"None of this made sense at the time, and it doesn't make sense now," said Thomas.

Vanatter's family on Wednesday was offering $5,000 to anyone that can give them information leading to an arrest and conviction.

"It goes on and on and I feel like I have no closure," said Shimrock. "You think you're coming to a certain part where we'll find out where Eddie is and we don't get anything."

The family believes Vanatter is dead. Now they just want to know what happened to him.

"I want a place to go and talk to my brother, visit my brother," said Thomas. "I want to say this is his final resting place."

Detectives want any friends or associates of Vanatter or his roommate at the time, John Caputo, to call the Eastlake Police Department (440-951-1400) or the Lake County Sheriff's Office (440-350-5500) with information.
