CAMBRIDGE, Ohio — Trees line the streets in Cambridge, Ohio. The town is nestled against historic buildings. And cars on the national road, Route 40, glide through downtown.

"We sit at the interstate of 70 and 77. We're one of the main intersections if you look at the map of Ohio and I like to say it's the last major frontier," said Mayor Tom Orr.

Orr calls it the last major frontier, but Ohio Magazine calls Cambridge one of Ohio's best hometowns.

With a population of a little more than 11,000, Cambridge has a majestic small town feel, with plenty to do.

"On one end of the county we have Salt Fork State Park, which is the largest state park in the state of Ohio. And on the other end of the county, we have Seneca Lake," said Debbie Robinson with the Cambridge/Guernsey Co. Visitors & Convention Bureau.

If you don't have time for a trip to the state park, take a trip to a city park. Swing sets and jungle gyms are waiting for the kids, and they're even handicap accessible. If you prefer history, the more than 200-year-old community has other sights to see.

"We have our Byesville Scenic Railway and that offers a glimpse into the history of coal mining in Guernsey County," said Robinson.

With the holidays coming, historic Cambridge will come alive. Dickens Victorian Village will take you back to old world England. The public art display features 74 scenes, featuring more than 100 mannequins and real residents dressed in Victorian costumes. The event is volunteer-driven in a community that works together.

"There was an ad in the paper for people to come and help. One hundred people, who weren't even connected in any other way, showed up to help display them," said Cambridge resident Martha Jamail.

You can also stop by the courthouse to see an amazing lights display set to music. The Guernsey County Courthouse Holiday Light Show is another sight created by a local volunteer.

"The community, just everybody, works together. I think it just brings everyone together. We just have a wonderful time. It's like one big family on the streets," said Cambridge resident Vangie Bell

A hard working town has pushed for new business opportunities and a top rate medical facility while holding onto its foundation.

"I would welcome anybody and everybody to come see what we've done here in Guernsey County and Cambridge. Look at the fruits of our labor," said Guernsey Co. Commissioner Tom Laughman.

Cambridge is a beautiful town, with friendly people, lots of history, and a strong community spirit alive and well.
