Three people are dead, including twins, after a fire broke out Wednesday night on the city's west side.
A 29-year-old man and 3-year-old twins have died. The man and twins are unrelated. A 4-week-old baby girl remains hospitalized. The 29-year-old is the 4-week-old's father.
The fire broke out in the 1700 block of Clark Avenue around 8 p.m.
Cleveland fire officials said the victims were trapped on the second floor and the only exit was blocked by fire.
"This is probably the worst case scenario you'll find," said Assistant Fire Chief David McNeilly. "They were trapped. The fire was between them and the way out of the house, so we brought them out through the windows. We brought ladders to second story to get them out of here."
Other people who were on the first floor when the fire broke out were able to get out of the house OK.
There is no word on the conditions of the other two victims. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
