The Rockies Express Pipeline spans several hundred miles from Colorado to Monroe County, Ohio.
Some cities along the pipeline praised the push for a newer, cleaner energy source and the project's benefits to the community.
"It was great for the Mexico, Missouri. There were lots of jobs, lots of money spent in our area." said a Mexico, Missouri Chamber of Commerce representative.
That was not the case in one Ohio county.
As the natural gas pipeline finished it's last leg, one community leader said this pipe was laid by out of town workers.
"It's a work force that has been brought in from out of the county. We can't find any local businesses, local union halls, or local jobs and family services office that have been contacted or tried to recruit a work force for this project," said Team Monroe Community Developer Tom Scott.
Parent company Kinder Morgan did negotiate with thousands of homeowners along the path, securing
a 50 foot right of way along the route. Those homeowners and each county affected are being
compensated.
Projected tax dollars from the project will be split amongst the Buckeye state's 14 counties
housing the pipeline.
"Any monies received from that proposed income will not be realized until at least calendar 2011," Scott said.
The process will take patience as the demand for a cleaner energy source like natural gas
increases.
This is the same pipeline that was reportedly leaking in Fayette County, Ohio Tuesday
evening. Fewer than 10 homes were evacuated and no injuries were reported.
