Murder Conviction In University Slayings

Tuesday,  November 3, 2009 1:05 PM

WASHINGTON, Pa — A former Pittsburgh man has been found guilty of first-degree murder of two Ohio college students in 1999.

A Washington County jury convicted 29-year-old Terrell Yarbrough on Tuesday in the slayings of Franciscan University students Aaron Land, of Philadelphia, and Brian Muha, of Westerville, Ohio.

Prosecutors say Land and Muha were kidnapped from Steubenville, Ohio, and driven to the Pittsburgh suburb of Robinson Township, where they were shot.

Yarbrough was convicted and sentenced to death in Ohio, but in 2004, the Ohio Supreme Court threw out convictions for him and co-defendant Nathan Herring saying they should have been tried in Pennsylvania.

They're serving time in Ohio on other convictions in the case including kidnapping, burglary and robbery.
