Casino Ground Game Raging Before Election

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Supporters and opponents of Ohio's fifth gambling issue in 20 years are trying to boost turnout for Tuesday's election.

The Ohio Roundtable is coordinating with churches to put up thousands of signs asking voters to oppose Issue 3, which would build casinos in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo.

Former Secretary of State Ken Blackwell's voice is on robocalls asking conservative voters in southwest Ohio to vote 'no'.

The Ohio Jobs and Growth Committee, which is pushing the casino issue, has staff and volunteers from organized labor going door-to-door in major cities.

Another issue would establish a board to oversee the care of livestock. The Ohio Farm Bureau is encouraging farmers to support the proposal, while the Humane Society of the United States is urging a 'no' vote.
