A man working at a medical lab in Tiffin is in jail for allegedly taking nude photos and video of patients at his workplace.
43-year-old Jaime Aguirre is accused of victimized unsuspecting patients, many of whom were children, at Advanced Medical Imaging. It's one of several medical practices in the Northwest Ohio Medical Institute in Tiffin.
Police in Brimfield Township, near Akron, arrested Aguirre Sunday night after a traffic violation. They say they found marijuana, knives, handcuffs and memory cards after searching his vehicle. Investigators also say they confiscated nude pictures of juveniles and video taken secretly in a medical setting.
"To set up a covert camera and record patients while they're undressing and while they're undergoing procedures... I might have seen it all now," said Brimfield Township Police Detective David Blough.
Police say Aguirre recorded patients during x-rays, mammograms and ultrasounds when he worked at the Tiffin lab as an ultrasound technician.
Investigators also searched his Huron County home in Willard and recovered computers and several homemade DVDs.
"Some of these patients were under sedation when this occurred. We have no reason to believe that any of them had any idea this was happening," said Brimfield Township Police Detective Lisa Blough.
Karen Vela, the administrator of the medical complex, says Aguirre worked at Advanced Medical Imaging since December 2007, but she fired him after police told her of the arrest Monday.
"He was a good worker and he was always here on time. It's just very upsetting," says Vela. She says they are working to find out if any of the patients were indeed on the images.
Aguirre is charged with four counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented materials.
