It happened in Davis Hall at Rio Grande University on Monday. The "N-word" was written on two dorm room doors.
"I wasn't mad, but I was disgusted because I think it's very childish," said Freshman Whittley Nelson.
Childish, yet hurtful according to Nelson, who was among four African-American women targeted.
"I asked if I could change my room because I don't feel comfortable in my room," said another student who wanted to remain anonymous.
These women said their rooms are among friends, or so they thought. It's a campus of approximately 2200 students, 60 of whom are minorities.
"Whether they're black or white, we treat all students fair, period. There is zero tolerance for any type of discrimination," said Dean of Students Elaine Armstrong.
Armstrong said the school is investigating, and the proper punishment will be handed out, "from a verbal to a fine, recommendation for suspension or possibly expulsion."
School officials said they're taking this matter very seriously. The women told ONN that they're thinking about leaving.
"If something else does happen, all I can say is I won't be still attending at Rio Grande," said one of the victims who wanted to remain anonymous.
Another student told ONN she's thinking about transferring, and adds her parents back her decision.
Sensitivity training for the campus is being considered. However school officials said they want to wait until their investigation is complete.
