Child Dies In Fire

A 7-year-old boy died in a fire early Monday morning in Medina.
The fire broke out on Smith Road near Huntington Street just after midnight. Firefighters said flames were shooting out of the back of the house.
A woman and her children were living on the second floor of the home.
Sgt. Nate Simpson was the first person at the scene of the fire. He went into the burning home and pulled the 7-year-old from his bed. The boy did not survive. The officer was treated and released from a local hospital.
Four other children and their mother got out of the house. Another adult and child got out of the first floor They were all treated and released.
There was no immediate word on how the fire started. The state fire marshal's office will help Medina firefighters with their investigation
