SOUTH ZANESVILLE, Ohio — Otis is a friendly feline who enjoys being pet and having his belly rubbed.

But now, you can see scars around his neck and his owner has been scarred emotionally.

"I know a lot of people don't like cats, but I don't see any reason to shoot one either," said Jeff Oxley.

Six-year-old Otis was shot in the neck by an arrow while out in Oxley's yard.

"It would take someone without a heart to do something like this, to injure the animal and just leave it for dead," said South Zanesville Police Chief Eric Finley.

The arrow went through Otis' neck and came out underneath one of it's front legs, but missed all vital organs.

"(The cat) spent time trying to paw the arrow to try and get it out and it cut up it's foot pretty bad on the tip of the arrow that had come though," said Larry Hostetler of the Animal Shelter Society.

The vets saved Otis' life (at least one of them).

"They say cats have nine lives. This one has used up at least one of his," said Finley.

While Otis heals and spends time with the Oxley family, police continue to look for leads in the case.

If you have any information about the attack can call the police department at (740) 453-0626.
