MARIETTA, Ohio — Police in Southeast Ohio are investigating an alleged puppy mill.

They say thousand dogs and puppies were seized from the same kennel owner last August in West Virginia.

Sharon Roberts could face charges for running a puppy mill.

Washington County deputies confiscated nearly a quarter million dollars in cash and computers during a search of Roberts' home.

They also took a dead puppy to the vet for testing, but left the other 68 dogs at her home in Vincent.

Police believe Roberts was selling purebred dogs for cash to avoid paying taxes.

"I can tell you this.  I do not have a breeding facility.  People dropped off dogs and gave them to me, but I've never bred them," said Roberts.

West Virginia authorities didn't bring charges against Roberts last year on the condition she wouldn't breed animals ever again.

Ohio authorities said Roberts has an Ohio kennel license.
