COLUMBUS, Ohio — The screen has been dark for some time in Ohio. After six years of being dormant, the Ohio film office has been revived by the governor reported ONN's Dan Weist.

There's a kick-off party at the governors' residence Tuesday night.

The Ohio film office is opening up to once again to entice filmmakers and others to shoot that next blockbuster in the Buckeye state.

"We are going after T.V., music or commercial productions, and feature films," said Christina Grozik, the Ohio Film Office director.

The Strickland administration re-launched the agency to help attract more production to the state.

Ohio already has film credits with flicks like Shawshank Redemption, shot in Mansfield or Traffic,  partly shot in southwest Ohio.

The new office director says part of the state's strength is location.

"We've got such diversity here, everything but deserts and mountains," said Grozik.

Some of Spiderman 3 was shot in Cleveland and that's also true for Major League.

Regional film commissions have been working to get production work to the state but theater owners say a coordinated statewide effort could help.

Grozik would only give a tease in saying there are potentially a couple big budget productions in the works for the next year in Ohio.

She says she's already had about 50 inquiries to her since start at the state development department.
