COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man was arrested Sunday after police said he solicited a company for help in kidnapping a former co-worker and holding them for ransom.

Carl W. Rotach, 21, was taken into custody by SWAT officers near the corner of Broadmeadows Boulevard and North High Street, 10TV's Tino Ramos reported.

According to police, the investigation began when a representative from a private executive protection company called police, saying that Rotach had contacted the company and solicited it to commit a kidnapping for ransom.

Officers posing as employees of the company met with Rotach.  Detectives said he wanted them to kidnap a former co-worker and hold them until a ransom was paid, police said.

Rotach was later taken into custody without incident.

Some of Rotach's neighbors came forward with new claims on Monday, saying he approached them about an alleged kidnapping plot, Ramos reported.

One neighbor, who asked not to be identified, claimed that Rotach asked her if she knew anyone who would help hold a person for ransom.

"He asked me if I knew anybody that would go with him and make some money, because this girl is worth millions to kidnap," she said.

Rotach was charged with complicity to kidnapping and expected to face a judge on Tuesday.
