COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man sought in connection with a home robbery in which a woman and her child were tied up and left in a basement was taken into custody Thursday after a brief standoff with police.

Larry Cathcart was arrested shortly before noon at an apartment on Deewood Drive, located near Cleveland Avenue on the city's north side, 10TV's Lindsey Seavert reported.

Police arrived at the complex late Thursday morning after learning that Cathcart was there.  Cathcart, 42, stayed inside an apartment for about 20 minutes before surrendering to authorities, police said.

He faces robbery and kidnapping charges stemming from a March 3 robbery at a home on South Cassingham Street in Bexley, Seavert reported.

A woman said two men who appeared to be UPS delivery men knocked on her door at about 8 p.m.  When she opened the door, the men forced her inside at gunpoint and took her to the basement, where she and her child were tied with duct tape.

The men then ransacked the home, taking jewelry and other valuables.

"This was the lead gunman, the person that was most threatening to the homeowner, running the show while he was in the house," said Bexley Detective Robert Holdren.

Cathcart served 17 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter. He was released from parole two years ago, Seavert reported.

He will be charged with four counts of kidnapping and one count of aggravated robbery, in connection with the Bexley burglary, police said.

Police were still searching for the second gunman.

Neither the woman nor her child was injured.
