COLUMBUS, Ohio — A power outage affected several downtown buildings and traffic lights on Wednesday morning.

A transformer apparently blew at East Chapel and South Sixth Street, near Grant Medical Center, at about 9:45 a.m., 10TV's Tino Ramos reported.

No injuries were reported.

The power was out for about 25 minutes.  Several buildings, including City Hall, the John W. Bricker Federal Building and the Ohio Statehouse used backup generators during the incident.

The William W. Wilkins Professional Building, located at 285 East State St. was evacuated.  Since the building also has a wound treatment center, mammography center and a cancer treatment center, patients who were in the middle of treatments were taken to Grant to finish their treatments, Ramos reported.

Firefighters helped evacuate some patients from the center, Ramos reported.

"We helped evacuate, I'd say, between 50 to 100 office workers out of the building and in addition, roughly five or so immobile patients that were here getting treatment," said Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief Sean Moore.

A six-story medical office building, located across the street from Grant Medical Center, was rescheduling appointments and medical treatments.

A Grant Medical Center dialysis building was expected to remain without power for several hours.
