There were no dry eyes when service members stepped off the plane at Rickenbacker Airport, and reunited with their family members, 10TV's Lindsey Seavert reported.

After spending 10 months in Iraq, 56 sailors returned home.

"I saw them right away - tear-jerking, exciting, exhilarating - a lot of emotions," said Shawn O'Neil of Columbus.

They spent much of their time overseas protecting oil in one of the largest military ports in the world as part of the Maritime Security Detachment No. 823.

John Godwin of West Liberty, Ohio was one of the first sailors to step off the plane, into the waiting arms of his two young daughters.

"I seen them right away tear jerking, exciting, exhilarating a lot of emotions," Godwin said. "Go home and stay with my family, go back to work someday, but right now just want to be with my family, that's it."
