MANSFIELD, Ohio — Police announced Tuesday that they have captured the man suspected of firebombing the city's municipal building.

Police have scheduled a 6 p.m. news conference where they are expected to announce Kevin Dye's arrest, 10TV's Glenn McEntyre reported.

Dye, 40, faces charges of aggravated arson and manufacturing of a dangerous ordinance in connection with firebombing that occurred Monday shortly before 1 a.m.

Investigators believe Dye broke four windows on the east side of city building and then hurled several so-called incendiary devices inside, 10TV News reported.

The fire inside the building was extinguished by the sprinkler system, but thousands of gallons of water caused extensive damage.

Police did not elaborate on the evidence that allegedly tied Dye to the crime.

Authorities said Dye was scheduled to appear in municipal court on Wednesday after being charged in an unrelated case.  The municipal court's judge's chambers were among those firebombed on Monday.

Two municipal court judges in Mansfield were placed under police protection after the incident.
