Thanks to Abbott Nutrition and the music channel, VH1 and their Save the Music initiative, the Hamilton Intermediate school got a school band.
Many of the school's sixth-graders had dreamed of forming a school band but until Friday, they were unsuccessful.
"The problem was we had a lot of students who wanted to do band but they were not able to get an instrument on their own," said teacher Amanda Laing.
A $30,000 grant will help the school supply instruments and materials, Townsend reported.
The Ohio State University Marching Band made an appearance, inspiring the schoolchildren who said they hoped to be among the band's ranks in a few years.
"Now more of my friends will get to play instruments with me and it'll be just a lot more fun," said student Brittany Haughn.
The school is among the more than 1,700 schools nationwide to benefit from the program, which seeks to restore music programs in elementary and middle schools, Townsend reported.
