COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 911 call indicates that two men posing as cable television workers forced their way inside a north side home on Tuesday and shot a man to death.

In the phone call, a woman told emergency dispatchers that two men wearing Comcast T-shirts and carrying clipboards knocked at the door of their Avalon Avenue home and pushed their way inside.

One of the men punched the woman in the face.

Bradley Greiner, who was also inside the home, had rushed to help the woman when one of the men pulled out a handgun and shot him, 10TV News reported.

Neighbor Kim Taylor said she heard the gunshot and ran next door.

"When I got to the porch I saw the female that lives in the house," Taylor said.  "She came out and said that Brad's dead; he got shot."

The men fled after the shooting.

"We had witnesses in the neighborhood who saw the two men leave, exit from a tan or silver PT Cruiser with New Jersey tags," said Columbus Police Det. Vincent Houpe.

Travers Hughes, who said he knew Greiner well, said crime in the north side neighborhood has gotten worse.  He said Greiner installed a surveillance camera system just a few weeks ago after thieves broke into his truck.

"There's been several (break-ins) what have you, forceful entries in this neighborhood lately," Hughes said.  "This time it just happened to be an innocent guy lost his life for no reason."

Comcast issues a statement Tuesday, saying the company was cooperating with police in the investigation.  It also pointed out that it has no offices in Columbus.
