Tents and sleeping bags lined the sidewalk outside of the store as people started lining up Thursday night, 10TV's Jeff Hogan reported.
The former governor and Vice Presidential candidate will make her only central Ohio appearance Friday, after a book signing event in Cincinnati.
Palin, who is on tour touting her new book, Going Rogue, will appear at the Borders Bookstore on Sawmill Road at 6 p.m.
SLIDESHOW: Crowds Gather
The book about her earlier life, her time as governor, and her experience as Republican running mate comes more than a year after GOP presidential candidate John McCain introduced her publicly at a Dayton rally.
Borders doors opened at 10 a.m. and those who had waited the longest 18 hours in some cases got their wristbands first.
The first 500 people received a wristband and they are guranteed a chance to meet Palin and get their book signed.
That is a change Palin's staff made in response to large crowds originally there was supposed to be 1,000 wristbands handed out, Hogan reported.
"Well, it looks really good on my wrist. We're really excited! Can't wait to go home and sleep!," said Johanna Hart.
Kimberly Hill was one of those people who waited for 18 hours.
"I got the book, got the band, I'll be here tonight. It's definitely been worth it. All that wait in the cold's been worth it," Hill said.
Those who got wristbands will return at 4 p.m. to line up again.
Palin is scheduled to arrive at 6 p.m.
For those who did not get a wristband, they can come, but staff said there is no guarantee they will meet Palin.
