Green Lawn Cemetery Honors 30,000 Vets Buried There

More than 30,000 veterans are buried at Green Lawn Cemetery, dating back to the Civil War, and on Veterans Day the cemetery hosted a tribute, 10TV's Patrick Bell reported.
The ceremony included a color guard presentation, a wreath-laying ceremony, and a speech from an Army Colonel.

"It's just to keep the memory alive, and also to pray for the troops we have overseas, because they'll be veterans when they come back. And hopefully they'll carry everything on," said Vietnam veteran Larry Taylor.
Three generations of a family turned out to pay tribute to their hero Senior Master Sgt. William Henry Brooks.
Brooks' wife, Estelle, daughter Cheryl and granddaughter Ashley walked through Greenlawn hand in hand, remembering Brooks.
The Tuskegee airman and 27-year Air Force veteran spent much of his life in Columbus.
"Words are inadequate to describe how we felt about him. He was not only a good father, husband, but he was a very proud American," Estelle Brooks said. "The last 10 years he went to different schools, prisons, hospitals, speaking about the Tuskegee airmen
Other Veterans Day events were planned, including a photo display at the Canal Winchester municipal building on South High Street.
Hilliard was scheduled to hold its Veterans Day parade at 7 p.m.
The Columbus Blue Jackets were scheduled to pay tribute to those who have served at its Military Appreciation Night before their 7 p.m. game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Due to the federal holiday, mail will not be delivered and county, state and federal offices are closed.
