COLUMBUS, Ohio — A woman who initially told police that she witnessed someone shoot and kill her husband was charged with his slaying Wednesday night.

Ashley Baldwin was arrested without incident and charged with murder, 10TV News reported.

Police responded to a 911 call from Baldwin on Tuesday night and were expecting to find a shooting victim, because that is what Baldwin reported.

Baldwin told police she witnessed someone shoot her husband, James Davis, in a north side parking lot, but when police arrived, she could not tell them where it happened.

Police searched for hours but could not find a body - until Wednesday morning.

Another caller reported that a man was in an SUV, in the parking lot of a Tamarack Boulevard apartment complex, and had not moved for hours.

When police arrived they found Davis slumped over inside the car.

Davis, 47, was shot in the head in the passenger seat of the car.

He was found several blocks from the complex Baldwin had them searching the day before.

"Typically they can take us right back to where this occurred that wasn't the case with this," said Sgt. Rich Weiner.

Baldwin told police she thought the murder was the result of a drug deal gone wrong, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported.

Davis had been arrested on drug-related charges in the past.

He had been arrested 15 times in Franklin County this year, for offenses including assault and domestic violence.

Police said after their search on Tuesday, they dropped Baldwin off at a relative's house. On Wednesday, when police returned, Baldwin was gone.

10TV also learned that Baldwin was not Davis' wife.  Friends of the victim said the two did have a relationship.
