The fans gathered Sunday night at El Palenque Party House on Georgesville Road expecting to see a concert. Instead, they waited hours and the show never went on, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported.
Police were called to the venue when concertgoers became irate after learning that the band wasn't performing.
"Police came in and maced everyone," said concertgoer Amanda Hobbs. "And the group never showed up, never sang."
Concertgoers later learned that the concert promoters had no intention of putting on a show, so people began asking for a refund. When the band's promoter was called, it was made clear that the band was never coming to Columbus. In fact, it had ended its American tour two weeks earlier, Landers reported.
"We said, 'If they do not sing, are you going to give us our money back?'" Hobbs said. "And the lady said, 'Yes I will.'"
More than 700 people left without a refund.
Mike Roberts, a former business consultant for the venue's promoters, told 10TV he believed this was planned in advance.
"It had been planned from the beginning, they had scheduled a band that wasn't going to be there they knew wasn't going be there," Roberts said.
Roberts told 10TV he was planning on filing fraud charges against the promoters.
