DELAWARE, Ohio — A church that doubles as a daycare will be closed Friday after burglars forced their way inside the building overnight and stole cash.

Lifepoint Church, located on West William Street, was badly damaged during the break-in, 10TV's Tino Ramos reported.

The burglars forced their way inside by smashing the church's windows.

Then, they broke a metal sculpture that contained donation money that the church had been collecting for several months, Ramos reported.

"It hurts," said Lifepoint executive Pastor Troy Palermo.  "It's something we were excited about doing.  To think that someone came in and just stole it, it's sad day for us.  We'll pick up and go on and not let it discourage us."

The church, which also houses a daycare, will be closed until Monday so leaders can clean up.

No arrests were made.
