REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio — Music, art, staff, even school buildings everything is on the chopping block in Reynoldsburg after voters on Tuesday defeated a levy, 10TV's Karina Nova reported.

District officials said Wednesday they would make $17 million in cuts.

Lashina Rhynhardt is a senior who is taking advantage of the district's advanced placement courses as a way to earn college credit early.

"It's credits and it will save you a semester of math and you're a step ahead when you go right in, already prepared for college math," said Rhynehardt.

But those prep courses are among several honors and electives programs that could be eliminated.

Superintendent Stephen Dackin said he is already looking for anyplace cuts can be made.

The district is currently building two new schools, but without the levy money, there may be no funding to open them, Nova reported.

"We don't have money to open them," Dackin said. "My point is that this community has gone for 13 years without additional operating money from the community."

Money that Lashina said would have been well spent on her and on future students.

"Finding something that you like, or not being involved in it, because of a school levy, takes away from everything a school has to offer."

Final plans as to what cuts will be made for the next school year will be decided by January.
