Delaware County Voters To Decide On Sirens

DELAWARE, Ohio
Voters in Delaware County will decide on two issues in Tuesday's election that could increase the number of tornado sirens in the county.

The county has 13 tornado sirens, in comparison to neighboring Franklin County's 160 sirens.

The first levy is a one year 0.4-mill levy that would install 46 sirens across the county, 10TV's Brittany Westbrook reported.

The second one year 0.1-mill levy would cover maintenance for 10 years.

The levies would cost property owners $15 a year per $100,000 valuation on their home.

"If it's to raise my property taxes, I'm voting against it no matter what it is," said resident Harold Summers.

Westbrook said supporters do have some concern with the ballot language for the maintenance levy.

Under state law it says the levy is for current expenses instead of specifically the warning sirens. But commissioners have earmarked the funds only for maintaining the sirens.
