Wyatt Malaby, 27, and his stepdaughter, Amy Miller, were driving east on Interstate 70 toward Zanesville, when they came upon the driver of white Ford Ranger pickup, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported.
"We pulled up on him to go around him and he slammed on his brakes for some reason," Miller said. "He was swerving his car and trying to ram the driver side of ours."
Malaby tried to get away from the driver by pulling off of the interstate into the Flying J parking lot. They realized the other driver was right behind them. Malaby got out of his car to talk to the other driver, but that's when the confrontation got violent.
"I just saw him reach up and crack him in the back of the head," Miller said.
The other driver had picked up a tire iron and continued to attack Malaby. Miller rushed to her stepfather's side and demanded answers from his attacker.
"I started yelling at him, 'What did he do? What are you doing?' and he said, 'I'll do the same thing to you,'" Miller said.
The driver of the pickup then left, Landers reported.
Malaby was taken to a hospital. The blow to his head left him with no memory of the attack.
The driver of the other vehicle drove a later model Ford Ranger with tools in the back. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
