Alleged Drug Ring Leader Arrested In N.C.

Maurice "Papa Joe" Williams was taken into custody without incident by law enforcement agencies from Columbus and Charlotte, the FBI said.
Williams, 33, was the alleged leader of the "Georgia Peach" drug trafficking operation that operated on the city's north side.

In March, Columbus authorities made several arrests in connection the operation.
The FBI said 31 people have been indicted on charges stemming from their alleged involvement with the ring.
If convicted, Williams could be sentenced up to 20 years in prison for operating a continuing criminal enterprise, the FBI said.
Williams was expected to make an initial court appearance in Charlotte on Thursday morning before he is transported to Columbus.
