COLUMBUS, Ohio — A former Zanesville police officer will serve 20 years in prison for orchestrating a plot to steal cocaine from a drug dealer and sell it for profit.

Sean Beck learned his sentence Thursday in United States District Court.

Beck, 30, pleaded guilty in May 2008 to charges of possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of cocaine and one count of possession of a firearm during a drug crime.

Former fellow Zanesville police Officer Trevor Fusner and auxiliary Officer Chad Mills also pleaded guilty to charges in the case. Both were sentenced in December 2007 to 80 months in prison.

Authorities said they began investigating Beck after getting a tip from a known drug dealer in Zanesville.  The drug dealer said that Beck contacted him and wanted to know if he could arrange for drug deliveries to be intercepted.

Investigators said they staged a fake delivery of cocaine to a Zanesville cemetery, where the three officers planned to rob a drug dealer at gunpoint wearing police clothing.
