COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine formally announced Wednesday that he will run for Ohio Attorney General.

10TV's John Fortney reported last week that DeWine would run for office.

DeWine, a Republican, made the announcement with his wife, Fran, at the Ohio Statehouse, 10TV News reported.

He will face Delaware County Prosecutor Dave Yost 2010 primary election.

DeWine said his focus would be on fighting crime, and speeding up the process by which fingerprint and ballistics information is entered into state databases.

He also said the Office of Attorney General must rise above politics.

"Justice is not Republican justice (and) is not Democrat justice," DeWine said. "(It) must simply transcend partisan politics."

Current Attorney General Richard Cordray, a Democrat, is expected to run for reelection, 10TV News reported.
