Police said the man drove northbound on Riverside Drive and crashed near Henderson Road, Bell reported.

"When the suspect's vehicle got north of McCoy (Road), it did crash and roll," said Columbus police Sgt. Jeffrey Sowards. "Alcohol is involved."

Officers said the man, whose name was not immediately released, tossed a handgun from his vehicle between Fishinger and Henderson roads.

"During this pursuit, the officers observed the suspect point a gun at his head and then point a gun at officers," Sowards said.

The driver was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital. Details on his condition were not immediately released.

The shooting and chase remained under investigation.
