SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — An elementary school teacher accused of raping a high school student pleaded not guilty to charges on Wednesday.

Clark County Sheriff's deputies said the alleged sexual assault occurred Friday at Michael Markeson's home.

Markeson, 28, teaches in the Greenon Local School District as an elementary school teacher. He is also involved in the high school's drama club, 10TV News reported.

According to investigators, Markeson met the victim at a grocery store and offered him a job at his home.

"The teacher asked this juvenile to come to his house and then he offered him a job pulling weeds working around the house," said Clark County Deputy Sheriff Gene Kelly.

At some point, Kelly said Markeson tried to hug the boy.

"At that time he got down on his knees and pulled the pants of the juvenile down and then sexually assaulted this juvenile," Kelly said.

Defense attorney Jon Paul Rion said Markeson would fight the allegations.

"The allegation in its entirety is not accurate and we plan to challenge it," Rion said.

Markeson, who faces charges of rape and gross sexual imposition, was released from custody Wednesday on $50,000 bond.
