A Letter To The Community, From Heather's Husband, Joe Cygan

There were more than 6,000 participants sporting pink wigs in support of Heather's Team.

Heather Pick's family came from Wisconsin for the race.

"We're very proud, really proud of her," said Adam Pick, Heather's brother. "To hear about 7,000 people coming here to join Heather's Team is really overwhelming."

"Heather was a beloved icon and her passion and spirit will always live on in the hearts of all of us at 10TV and the central Ohio community," said 10TV President and General Manager Tom Griesdorn.  "She worked tirelessly to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer and to communicate her message to viewers.  As Central Ohio's News Leader, this is something she would have wanted and expected us to do.  It's a way for us to help continue her fight."

The stories of people who participated in the race were deeply personal -- they ran for themselves and for others. Some families made it their mission to be part of the race for a loved one.

"I live in Colorado and I came out to do the walk with my family," said Joan Solano.

Her sister, Janice Shipley, is a breast cancer survivor.

"It's amazing. When I first came down I was a little overwhelmed," Shipley said.

The goal is a cure and support is a big part of that, 10TV News reported.

"A lot of support, a lot of friends, you just have to believe and know that you can survive it," Shipley said.
