Kim Ash faces 13 counts, including theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, robbery, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and abduction, according to Delaware County prosecutor Dave Yost.
"It's a Shakespearean tragedy," Yost said. "Somebody who was a respected professional, highly-trained commander of other men who's fallen to this state."

On Feb. 19, Ash, 41, allegedly stole $800 from an acquaintance.
Then, on March 22, Ash was accused of robbing a Subway restaurant in Lewis Center. The next day, he allegedly robbed a Westerville pet store.
On March 25, the acquaintance allowed Ash to use her car for a few hours so he could collect money to pay her back, but he never returned her car until the next day, Yost said.
The following day, Ash allegedly robbed a hair salon located on Polaris Parkway in Lewis Center.
Three days later, police said that Ash forced himself into an apartment located on North Union Street in Delaware and kidnapped a woman at knifepoint. According to Yost's office, Ash forced her to drive him to Columbus where he used her credit card.
Then, on March 30, Ash allegedly approached a woman in a Wal-Mart parking lot off Columbus Pike in Delaware and threatened her at knifepoint in an attempt to kidnap her and steal her car.
When the attempt failed, police said that he went into a neighborhood located off Hull Drive and ordered him to walk outside to his vehicle. The homeowner ran away and escaped, police said.
Ash allegedly attempted to rob a man sitting in his vehicle but the doors were locked. Delaware police officers eventually confronted Ash and used a Taser on him after he refused to drop his knife, Yost said.
If convicted, Ash faces up to 84 years in prison.
