NEWARK, Ohio — A man who faces charges for allegedly operating and crashing a motorized bar stool while under the influence of alcohol told 10TV News on Tuesday that he plans to fight the charges in court.

Kile Wygle was charged with OVI and driving under suspension after the March 4 crash along Kelley Lane, located north of downtown Newark.

According to police, Wygle admitted to drinking 15 beers before the wreck, and told officers that he was traveling about 20 mph when the bar stool he was riding crashed.

On Tuesday, Wygle disputed accusations that he drank before the crash, 10TV's Karina Nova reported.

"I wasn't drinking before I wrecked," Wygle said. "I wrecked then I started drinking."

The man who built the bar stool, Vonn Watson, of Heath, said he started building the motorized bar stools as a joke. He said he found old motors from rototillers and lawn mowers, attached bar stools, and created contraptions that can reach 67 mph.

One of Watson's most recent customers was Wygle, who bought a bar stool about three months ago for $800, Nova reported.

"They are dangerous; it's a novelty thing," Watson said. "You don't have to go as fast as they will go."

Wygle agreed, saying he would take extra precautions if ever getting back on a bar stool.

"I'd wear a helmet next time," he said.
