COLUMBUS, Ohio — Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien announced Thursday that no charges would be filed against 13 voters who listed the same east side address on their voter registration forms.

While charges would not be filed, O'Brien said the voters' registrations would be canceled, 10 Investigates' Paul Aker reported.

"I thought that to be fair and just result," O'Brien said.

Last week, prosecutors opened an investigation into the voters after they each listed a home on Brownlee Avenue as their address on voter registrations.

10 Investigates later learned that the voters were members of "Vote From Home." Part of the group's mission involved registering voters and taking them to polling locations.

At least one of the volunteers told 10TV that he came to central Ohio to recruit voters, but did not plan on a long-term stay in the state.

"A lot of us have family in New York," said volunteer Daniel Hemel. "(We) come from New York; we're graduate students. Most from Oxford in New England and we've been living in Ohio for the summer."

After making contact with some of the voters in question, O'Brien said they seemed to have been confused about voting laws in Ohio.

In addition to living in the state for more than 30 days, O'Brien said voters needed to live in the state permanently for their votes to be accepted.

A spokesman for the "Vote From Home" group offered an apology during a news conference on Thursday afternoon.

"Our mistake was an honest one," the spokesman said, "but it was a mistake nonetheless. Without reservation, we fully apologize to the community, which has been so welcoming to us, for any problems this misunderstanding has caused."
