Investigators say someone shot a 13-year-old German Shepherd mix named Sam with an arrow while the dog was playing in a fenced-in backyard in northwest Columbus, 10TV's Glenn McEntyre reported.
A week ago, another dog died after being shot with arrow in a backyard on the southeast side.
Sam's owner, Nicole Cole, said she inherited Sam after her grandparents died. Cole said the elderly dog was not a threat to anyone.
"I can understand if he was trying to hurt somebody, but he was in his own backyard, fenced in," Cole said.
"What kind of person would do something like that?" neighbor Bonnie Cramer asked, "Obviously this is a very disturbed individual."
"We are cautioning all pet owners in Franklin County and the city of Columbus not to leave their animals outside unsupervised," Kerry Manion of the Capital Area Humane Society told 10TV News.
Back in April, two cats in a Southeast Columbus apartment complex were shot with arrows. Both animals survived.
It is unclear if all the animals were harmed by the same person.
The Capital Area Humane Society is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.
