The fight happened early Saturday morning outside of a home on Palisades Avenue, located east of Alum Creek Drive in southeast Columbus, 10TV's Cara Connelly reported.
According to 911 calls to police, a party at the home turned violent with several people fighting.
"You might want to send somebody down here quickly," a caller told the dispatcher. "I got a big fight out in the middle of a street."
Moments later, with sounds of the fight raging in the background, the caller retreated back inside her home.
"You better hurry," the caller said. "Everybody else is joining in now. I am going back in my house."
Another 911 call may have shed light on what led up to the brawl.
"A birthday party and there's a group of people trying to fight everybody that lives here," the caller said. "Because they asked them to leave and now it's getting ridiculous, sir."
According to police, Adam Messmer, a student at Columbus State Community College, was trying to break up the fight when he was hit, Connelly reported.
When police and medics arrived, Messmer had been taken inside the house with severe head trauma, Connelly reported.
He was transported to Grant Medical Center where he died on Sunday.
No arrests have been made in the case.
The investigation is ongoing.
