COLUMBUS, Ohio — A city code enforcement officer will inspect an east side apartment that is dealing with a bed bug infestation on Wednesday.

People who live at the James Plaza apartments told 10TV News that they have had enough.

"I'm so sick and tired of getting bit over my entire body," said Jackie Jackson, who lives in the building. "(They're) all on my neck and biting me on my arms."

Jackson is not the only person dealing with the bed bugs, 10TV's Patrick Bell reported.

"My arms feel like I'm reading Braille, they're so bumpy," said Kevin Wilson.

Demetra Burger said she is leaving her apartment.

"I have to leave all my furniture behind, it will infest my new place," Burger said.

A maintenance supervisor told 10TV News that workers have treated the apartments with chemicals and will continue to do so, Bell reported. They have also replaced the carpets.

"They changed the carpets and the bugs are still crawling around everything, all over the floor," Jackson said. "They're in the TV's, in the clothes, they're in everything. Now I have to throw everything away and start all over again."

It is not an option for people who live in the infected apartments to move to another building because the bugs will move with them.

The maintenance supervisor said another chemical treatment is scheduled for Thursday.

Ebner Properties issued a statement to 10TV News, saying, "One of the apartment industry's biggest fears is for a tenant to bring bed bugs into the community because it can entail such a lengthy and extensive treatment program."
